The colors in this gown are amazing - they absolutely pop against the black background and are vivid and true. These printed gowns were a Lanvin staple and the dress of the season in its day. They were designed for that chic modern woman to wear while entertaining at home or to go out for a chic dinner and were often the subject for Vogue or Harper's Bazaar editorials! They were a signature piece for Lanvin during this time period and every chic woman had to have one. A Lanvin piece is a masterful mix of prints and this one is no different. The top portion is made of a very thin and light stretch knit jersey that I feel has a touch of silk worked into the fabric† - it will cling to every curve and is almost like not wearing nothing at all it is so light! The front scoops high on the neck and the back scoops much deeper. To further emphasize that back a chunky metal zipper is used that goes almost to the floor. This is an interesting detail as you see Alber use dramatic zippers often and you cant help but wonder if dresses like this from the archives were the inspiration! The skirt is a masterpiece - it is made of a chevron, waffle weave cotton and puffs out slightly from the waist before it cascades to the floor. It is an amazing and rare piece of fashion history and in excellent condition.
I am pleased to have had one of my team find this photo that we have added showing a gown in the same print from the 1971 collection!
Sleeves: 19"
Shoulder: 14"
Bust: to 16î flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 12î flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: open
Bodice: 16" from neck to waist
Skirt: 40" from waist to hem
The bodice is unlined and the skirt is fully lined but in a black tissue silk. It closes with an amazing chunky metal zipper that goes almost the full length of the dress at the back and has a huge ring pull. There is a cafe au lait color mark on one of the diamonds on the left from just above the knee - please super size to see. I only noticed it when listing and had not noticed it anytime prior so I do not feel that it detracts - the pattern is busy enough that it gets lost. I have dropped the price by quite a bit from what I originally was listing it for to accommodate for this. Otherwise looks unworn. It does do up all the way - it is a touch too small on my mannequin
